Research and evidence into the science & effectiveness of chiropractic treatment

The concept that chiropractic care is of value in maintaining health and preventing disease began with the work of Mr Palmer.

A report and clinical research has been performed over many years to assess and determine the science behind chiropractic treatment and chiropractic manual therapy.

Recently, a research study performed in the United Kingdom looked into the scientific evidence behind both the effectiveness and results of chiropractic manual adjustments and chiropractic treatment as a therapeutic option for managing pain and stiffness by assessing over “26 musculoskeletal and non musculoskeletal conditions” (2)

“The authors based their conclusions on the results of systematic reviews of randomised controlled trials, widely accepted evidence-based guidelines, and randomised controlled trials not yet included in the former.” (3)

It was concluded that “The most common conditions treated by chiropractors are back pain, neck pain, and headaches.9 The best available evidence supports manipulative therapy as a reasonable option for many of these complaints. Manipulative therapy also holds potential value for the treatment of a variety of extremity conditions.” (3)
