Treatment and menstrual pain

Most women have to withstand a lot of pain whilst having their regular menstrual cycle and many dread this experience. Common symptoms experienced includes sharp, cramping pain along with headaches, nausea, low back pain and bloating which may be severe enough to interfere with activities of daily living.
The most common term dysmenorrhea is used to refer to menstrual cycle pains with the aforementioned symptoms.
What is dysmenorrhoea?
Dysmenorrhoea in simple terms is known as painful periods or menstrual cramps in the absence of any underlying abnormality. Symptoms typically last less than 3 days. Generally our practitioners physical examination and patient history will rule out the involvement of organic pathology.
What causes the cramps/pain?
As part of normal physiology during your menstrual period, the uterus contracts to help expel its lining when no fertilisation of the oocyte (egg) occurs. A hormone-like substance called prostaglandin, which is involved in pain and inflammation, causes uterine muscle contractions. It is suggested that excessive production and release of prostaglandins may cause severe muscle contractions that constrict the surrounding blood vessels and thus, briefly cutting off supply of oxygen to the muscle tissue, resulting in cramp-like pain.
How can remedial  massage provide relieve for menstrual pain?
Treatment is a drugless, non-surgical, natural and we take a holistic approach to relieve pain and associated symptoms. Our practitioners aim to make sure your body functions at its maximal potential by aligning the spine to reduce interferences in the nervous system.

Our team of Remedial Massage therapists at Chirocure Clinic also use a wide array of techniques to improve blood circulation around the body and improve the body’s healing process, their techniques include:

  • Muscle Tension release
  • Dry Needling
  • Therapeutic reflexology

Massage therapy techniques offered at ChiroCure Clinic

Massage technique of the month….
  Cupping

  • Cupping is a technique used by our remedial therapists to stimulate blood flow by placing the plastic ‘cups’ over soft tissue and gently applying pressure to move the muscles upward.
  • The Cupping technique can be used to provide relief from muscular aches and pains, fatigue, stress and anxiety.
  • Most patients will feel the difference after just one session.
  • Your remedial massage practitioner may also give you simple exercises to practice at home to help with your long term health.

You can discuss with your chiropractor or remedial therapist about whether an ongoing treatment, that includes our cupping techniques or dry needling would be the right plan is right for you.

How massage therapy compliments Chiropractic treatment?                                Our practitioners explain…

The Benefits of Massage Therapy with Chiropractic Care

Massage is often recommended along with chiropractic treatment, either before or after and adjustment, as part of a patients treatment regime. The combination of these treatments often produces more effective results, and faster healing for the patient.

Remedial  massage therapy at ChiroCure clinic can be performed as preparation for chiropractic adjustment because it relieves the muscle tension that may be pulling joints out of alignment and makes it easier to move back into place.

Massage therapy can compliment the healing process by stretching and relaxing muscles that have been aggravated by structural problems, making it easier for you to stretch and exercise, and thus more quickly achieve a state of well being.

Chiropractic treatment at ChiroCure helps the digestive system.

how can treatment help my digestion?

The nerves that run through the thoracic spine control the stomach and stomach functions.

If the vertebrae of this mid-back region are subluxated, the irritation of these nerves will distort messages between the brain and body, causing erratic nerve impulses to the stomach increasing acid production.

Chiropractic adjustments at ChiroCure Clinic with our highly trained practitioners can help to remove misalignments that may be impinging nerves, which normalizes nerve flow often eliminating stomach issues.

what symptoms can chiropractic improve?

  • heartburn
  • acid reflux
  • gas
  • bloating
  • digestion
  • nutirent absorption
  • constipation
  • water absorption
  • sleep quality
  • a combination of these symptoms

We offer therapeutic supplements to aid in supporting your digestive health to compliment your care.

Advice on Driving Position – Avoid back and neck pain

ergonomics_chiropractic

Whether it’s the daily commute to work or an extended road trip, when the kilometres start to accumulate, there is added stress on the neck and the upper and lower back.

Leg Room
Adjusting the position of your legs is vital in avoiding deep vein thrombosis. Don’t stay in cramped positions for long periods of time. Utilise service stations to walk around and stretch out.

While driving:
• You should be able to operate the pedals without your legs being scrunched up or your back coming away from the seat, pushing the pedals all the way down using just your foot with your thigh relaxed.
• Your knees should be very slightly bent and you should feel no discomfort when bringing your foot upwards.
• Your legs and pelvis should be able to shift and move position to relieve pressure points and keep blood circulating without detracting from your driving.

Your Seat
One area of your seat adjustment that is regularly overlooked is the tilt of your seat.
Adjusting the driver’s seat to the perfect position can enhance both the comfort and effectiveness of your driving. Luckily the car companies have done most of the hard work for you but there are still many people who don’t know how to properly adapt their seat to suit their height or length.

Adjusting the driving position makes life much more comfortable:
• Tilt the seat so that your bottom and thighs are supported equally. You don’t want pressure points at the end of the seat and your thighs should extend past the seat so the backs of your knees are not making contact.
• Recline your seat up to a 100-110 degree angle to support the upper body and take away pressure from the muscles, joints and discs in your lower back.
• The height of your seat is very important to the comfort of your driving. Your hips and knees should be the same level and you should have a good view out of the front window without your knees touching the steering wheel.
• To minimise the strain on your neck and upper back, adjust your steering wheel so that your elbows do not reach too far forward.
You should vary the positions you drive and how you grip the steering wheel regularly to change the stressors on certain parts of your neck and back.

Your Mirrors
Be sure to stay in a safe driving position and alter your mirrors each time you adjust your seat.

Maintaining a Healthy Digestive System

Because we get all of our nutrients from our food and these nutrients are absorbed through our digestive tract, it is extremely important that we maintain a healthy digestive system! There is a common misconception that one strain of probiotic may be as effective as another in obtaining desired clinical outcomes. However, one strain behaves very different in the human body than another. In this blog entry I will be discussing the various types of probiotics that Metagenics has to offer and what results each type has been shown achieve.

When prescribing probiotics be sure that your healthcare professional is prescribing for a purpose, not just to make money! Whether it is due to poor diet, stress and lifestyle or medications (including oral contraceptives and antibiotics), it is important to ensure that the good bacteria in the gut is replenished to maintain a fully functioning digestive tract. Studies have shown that antibiotics continue to have a negative impact on the numbers and diversity of gut flora up to FOUR years after just a one week course. A probiotic such as Ultra Flora Restore would be most appropriate to restore healthy levels of gut bacteria.

The following strains have been shown to or may:

Ultra Flora Immune Enhance
– Enhance healthy immune system functioning
– Reduce the duration and severity of colds
– Maintain healthy gastrointestinal immune function and support beneficial intestinal bacterial adherence

Ultra Flora Immune Control
– Maintain healthy immune system regulation
– Reduce occurrence of, allergy symptoms
– Decrease occurrence of eczema in infants and children

Ultra Flora LGG
– Reduce the incidence of eczema and food allergies in infants (when taken by mom in 3rd trimester and first 18 months of breastfeeding)
– Reduce frequency of diarrhea

Ultra Flora Restore
– Assist in restoration of healthy gut flora
– Ideal for use during and after ANTIBIOTIC therapy

Ultra Flora Dysbiosis
– Assist with the management of dysbiosis (is a term for a microbial imbalance)
– Relieve and reduce the frequency of diarrhea
– Reduce the risk of TRAVELLER’S DIARRHEA

Probex
– Assist with the management o medically diagnosed IBS
– Relieve bloating, intestinal pain and inflammation

Ultra Flora Digest
– Support healthy digestive function and beneficial gut bacteria
– Support healthy immunity
– A great tasting, rapidly dispensible source of fibre

After selecting and prescribing the correct probiotics, the gut needs to have a healthy terrain and the ingested probiotics need sufficient fuel. Providing sufficient fuel for the good bacteria to thrive can be ensured by recommending a diet with adequate fibre and prebiotics or by recommending a proven prebiotics such as Ultra Flora Digest.
